MS Contin Overdose

Caution with MS Contin

Already depressed respiratory systems risk a greater chance of MS Contin overdose, especially if compromised by health issues such as:

  • Acute or chronic pulmonary disorders
  • Asthma
  • Chest wounds
  • Emphysema
  • Kyphoscoliosis
  • Paralysis of the phrenic nerve
  • Severe obesity
  • Upper airway obstruction

MS Contin may display greater onset of elation, pain relief action, and potential dependence than do other opioid analgesics at comparable pain-relief doses.
Combining drugs may cause MS Contin overdose or other impairment to occur.
Administration of MS Contin with other drugs that act on the central nervous system (CNS) will increase the risk of severe respiratory depression, which may prove fatal.
Central nervous system depression is another possible outcome of MS Contin overdose, among:

  • Cardiac arrest
  • Circulatory depression
  • Respiratory arrest
  • Shock

Contraindications for concomitant use with CNS depressants such as:

  • Alcohol
  • Antihistamines
  • General anesthetics
  • Hypnotics
  • Other narcotic analgesics
  • Other psychotropic drugs
  • Phenothiazines
  • Sedatives
  • Tranquilizers
  • See more detailed list. (i)
